Prose Poem

Ladies Night Out

Snow covers the houses, trees, cars, bushes,
crunching under foot while smoke-like breath
escapes my lips. My fingers feel thin, vulnerable,
breakable. I shiver and pull my coat tighter around
me and sit on the leather seat, hoping it won’t crack
in the frigid cold. I tighten my grip on the wheel,
knowing the road is slippery and I put it in gear
and go forth braving the winter like Nanuk
of the North. All for a cup of tea and a movie
with some friends. Was it worth it? You betcha.
