Set Aside
My hearing needs some adjusting
My spiritual ears, that is.
May I, in Jesus, be trusting,
And know the voice that is His.

Yours is the voice I strain to hear.
You, I desire to follow.
You can eliminate my fear.
You help me not be hollow.

Open my eyes to see Your hand.
Open my ears to hear You.
Open my hand to heal the land.
Open my heart to be true.

Pour out Your power in my life.
Please, help me be of service,
Putting aside hate and strife,
Plus worship while I do this.

Poetic Asides Descending

D own the steps I go,
E xiting the building.
S teps covered with snow
C old never yielding.
E scaping breath I see.
N otice how I shivered.
D own to the mailbox,
I s the mail delivered?
N o mail for me.
G oing up for tea.

Having a Little Fun
We skip along a wide and shady street
Make slapping noises with our sandaled feet
We laugh and wave to people passing by
It’s something we like often to repeat

Pretending to fly high in an air plane
Or zip along the ground in speeding train
We’d honk our horns or make sounds like the wind
Folks watching us might think we’ve gone insane

We say the sky is green and grass is blue
Or slosh about as if the street is goo
Or grope around as if we cannot see
The neighbors do make comments, quite a few

At time we make our voices sound so low
And then pretend we only can go slow
We act like we’re one-hundred-twenty-three
Or play we’re wearing snowshoes in the snow

Imagination is a friend of ours
Together, we have great super powers
We can be just anything we want as
We all perform and carry on for hours

God So Loved

At times like these I wonder how and why
That God can love mere humans such as I
Considering creation’s wide expanse
God is to us as we are to a fly

Ah, but His passion proved beyond compare
When He designed a plan for us to spare
From common sin’s misguided tyranny
That brought humanity into its snare

From Adam He began to implement
His plan until His only Son He sent
To pay the costly price of human sin
We only must believe Him and repent

We are just like a snowflake in the sun
Life ends so soon it seems it’s just begun
Eternity will stretch out like a sea
The only boat afloat is God’s own Son

Poetic Bloomings Borrowed Line

As Calendar Pages Turn

I hear reports
from various places
of sunshine and rain,
tulips and daffodils,
nest-building birds,
wonderful walks
in warm embracing air.

But here in Colorado
the mountains draw near,
speckled with white
against the gray sky.
Snow on north side piled high.
Winter wind whispers
“More to come.”

The tangled bare branches,
like tightfisted misers,
refuse to bud. So I sit,
afghan-wrapped, dreaming
of bike rides, hikes, picnics
in blossom-scented breezes,
and I wait for winter to give up.

An I Can't Write a Poem Poem

My Poem for the Day

I feel like a repository
of clich├ęs, trite rhymes,
and clunky meter.

Like an original thought
would suffocate
in my mind.

The only things that come out
have been said before,
and badly.

But I also feel
like a mountain climber:
stubborn, determined, dauntless.

Whatever it is that gets them to top--
I have a small dose of that
to write my poems.

The Joyful Me

Let me be the joyful me
Filled with life and pep
The one who smiles gleefully
Let me be the joyful me
Showing delight for all to see
With dance in her step
Let me be the joyful me
Filled with life and pep

Trimeric (mutant)

 A Smile

When entering a room, your smile says a lot:
I look forward to seeing you.
I’m at peace.
I plan to have fun.

I look forward to seeing you.
You are all okay.
I like you.
You may like me, too.

I’m at peace.
We’re in for a good time.
We will do worthwhile things here.
Our time together has value.

I plan to have fun.
I don’t want to be anywhere else.
I enjoy my life and
I’m glad you’re part of it.

Rhambling Rhyme

Winter Walk

The snow came down
Covered the town
Feeling like a clown
On a wintry day
Going my own way
Not gonna stay
Wandering here and there
Not know where
I’m going
Just flowing
And knowing
What it’s like to be free
To just be me
Smiling at the sky
Caring not why
I’ll get by
Though I’m cold and wet
It’s the best day yet

Poetic Asides Don't Forget To...

Don’t Forget to Write

You have a gift
that can be regarded as frivolous,
a waste of time,
a gift that can so easily slip
through your fingers.
You have a gift
to take people places
they cannot go,
to help them experience everything,
from flying on silver wings,
running with the bulls of Pamplona
or receiving an angel’s kiss.
You have a gift
to express things on their hearts
they can’t express themselves.
To incite them to love, hate,
become indignant, take joy,
learn what’s important.
You can enable them
to see the invisible
and hope for the eternal.
You have a gift
that transcends time and space
and has the potential
to affect generations to come.
You have a gift
designed to give.

Don’t forget to write.

Poetic Blooming Imagism

 Fierce Love

When a woman
longs for a baby
and learns she is pregnant,
love for her unborn child
washes over her,
growing exponentially
until the baby’s born
and forevermore.

A caregiver begins
with a simple compassion
toward an adult with special needs
somewhat detached,
but then love grows
like and infant in the womb,
and when born
is fierce as a mother’s love.

Poetic Blooming Aritcle title

Muddy Mule’s Owner Grateful

It was raining, it was pouring
While country folk were snoring
And woke up to a pasture full of muck.
Her mind went a little whirly,
When mule owner Shirley,
Realized Loretta Lou was good and stuck.

Shirley pushed and shoved
But the mule didn’t budge.
Nothing left to do, but call 911.
Help soon was on the way,
The poor mule began to bray,
Rescue of Loretta Lou had begun.

The firemen with their muscle
(Who all began to hustle),
The veterinarian with his expertise
And the back-hoe man,
(Who had a skillful plan)
Enabled the hapless mule’s release.

 Shirley didn’t begrudge her luck
That Loretta Lou got stuck,
But her heart was filled with gratefulness and glee,
For the dispatcher and then
All the able men
Who successfully set her muddy mule free.

Desert Calls

The windswept desert calls
Calling softly to lonely hearts
Endless expanse, no walls
In emptiness, your fullness starts

Mike Grove's tri-coupled sestet

Beneath the Moon

Beneath the moon, two lovers kiss,
and as they spoon, they say they’ll miss
each other while the girl’s away in France.
He takes her arm, he says, “Like this,”
and in his charm, she twirls in bliss.
“While you’re away, just close your eyes and dance.”

And while away, she met a man
who held her sway, as French men can.
She closed her eyes and saw her lover’s face.
She couldn’t stay, in foreign land.
That very day, she turned and ran.
And now they dance in that sweet moonlit place.

Poetic Asides Love

Like Jonah

Like Jonah, I was okay
Going my own way
I dated a good man
And I had a sound plan
I was east. God took me west.
My plan was fine, but He wanted what’s best.
You are the whale that swallowed me.

Poetic Bloomings Ovillejo

This Cat

When a poem comes together, how exciting,
when I’m writing.
But she’s competing for my lap
this cat.
A poem, kind of hazy
drives me crazy.
Now, don’t think I’m lazy.
It flits, almost appearing, but elusive like a ghost.
Surely, no reason to boast.
When I’m writing, this cat drives me crazy.

Human condition
Shapes dance almost visible
Misty like a ghost
Haunted shadowy forest
Burning question, why am I?

Heavy Snow

Out in the white world
Bundled adults shovel walks
Kids watch their own breath
Dogs dance trying to warm toes
Cars hurry to heated homes

Poetic Bloomings Zodiac

Scorpio! Me?

O, October, beautiful October
with sunshine
and silky clouds
in a pale blue sky.

And the colors!
The oranges, golds,
exhilarating the soul.

The earthy air
The cool breeze
The full moon at night
The crisp mornings

O, October, how did you ever
get associated with a scorpion,
one of God’s ugliest,
most frightening creatures?

Scorpions, they say,
would rather kill themselves
than be killed (like Hitler?)
And want life on their own terms (like cats?)

Passionate, determined and powerful!
Or is that moody, stubborn and manipulative?
Let me be rather associated with a deer:
big brown eyes, gentle, graceful.

Because We See

When we first met the thrill was great

And we knew it was much more than fate

We dreamed of when the date was set

The thrill was great, when we first met

That date grew near, we dreamed some more

Instead of two, there would be four

Our first one came, she was so dear

And the second—that date grew near

To our surprise two more joined us

We dreamed not, nor did discuss

The first two left, and now we rise

To the ones who came to our surprise

Our hair turns gray, we’d like to roam

But we work hard, right in our home

But above all, God have your way

We’d like to roam, our hair turns gray

We give God praise, because we see

Someday we’ll be, just him and me

So we’ll rejoice in this long phase

Because we see, we give Him praise
