Puerto Rico

In Puerto Rico
we loaded on to bus 222
with a thin dark haired woman,
Monica, as a guide.

With a good sense of humor,
she told us about Puerto Rico
with three main resources:
pharmaceuticals, rum, and tourism.

She pointed out the plants
bamboo, large elephant ears,
the national flower the Maga,
the giant Kapok tree.

And the national animal a tiny frog
named after its big call, “Coqui.”
When we stopped along the road
in the rainforest we heard it holler.

We got out to see waterfalls
in the pouring rain.
I never thought I’d see Puerto Rico,
but I did.
