Saying Goodbye to Summer

Saying goodbye to you, summer,
is like waving at the Shanghai Maglev
as it speeds by at 267 m.p.h..

She has been fiddling with her long hair
Attempting to put on an air.

Poetic Asides Wordle: ghost, crack, free, hand, check, know

Old Friend

A ghost of the past
Slips through the crack
Free to roam
Hand in hand with me.
I check my heartbeat
To know I’m alive.
And then, she’s gone again.

Can't write a poem poem

Elusive Poem

Sometimes my words
Flow from my finger tips
But there are some days
My creativity slips

So I look for inspiration
And take time to pray
And then voilĂ !
I write a poem that way

Poetic Asides Landay

Have Not

Our God answers prayers, we often say.
But we are much too busy to take time from our day.

For out troubles, we take God to task.
He will take time to answer, if we take time to ask.

Titanium is silver
Low density and strong
In soils, water, and rocks.
It makes good glasses
Jewelry and phones
But keep it away from my socks.

The carrot wears
Its feathered cap.
And hides beneath the ground.
Loosen its soil
Then pull it up.
While it’s still pointing down.

Searching for food
With joey in her pocket.
She nibbles on grass
And sees you coming
Then takes off like a rocket.

Spiritual Radio

Knowing that God loved us so much
He sent His Son to die
and His Holy Spirit to live inside,
I try to listen for God’s still, small voice.

Responsibilities clamor. The to-do list is long.
The foggy mind can barely hang on to a thought
beyond go here and there, do this and that.
It’s like trying to tune in a radio full of static.

And it takes effort and discipline
to train the mind to quit
judging, ridiculing, condemning myself.
I must take care of the interference.

Instead, meditate on His word, His love
His heart, His hope, His essence,
and, for at least an hour, rid myself
of the world’s distractions and busyness.

Static

I try to listen to God’s still, small voice.
It’s like trying to tune in a radio full of static.
I must take care of the interference
of the world’s distractions and busyness.

Poetic Asides struggle

Sugar War

Sugar is like a stealth bomber
cloaked in so many foods I love.
Going down the grocery aisle
is like tiptoeing through a minefield.
Skipping sugar shows how much
a prisoner of war I am, with aches,
moodiness and sluggishness.
I may never win the victory
of being completely sugar free,
but I can comfort myself knowing
less is better that more.

PB favorite food

Venison

In a big iron skillet,
Mom would cook venison,
(We just called it deer meat)
with gravy until tender
and I didn’t care so much
about the corn, tomatoes,
potatoes, lettuce plucked
right from the garden. I
could have eaten venison,
just venison, and I would
have been happy.

Smudges cover kitchen floor
Dirt and dust taunt me
I chose to do other things
But now I want nothing more
Than to see sparkle and shine

Poetic Asides A year in the life of

College after Fifty

My first year of college, after fifty, I
studied at night when I wasn’t taking
care of people, or cleaning the house,
or writing my novel, or working on
something for my writers group, or
completing a devotion assignment, or
writing poetry, or doing yardwork, or
critiquing manuscripts with a friend, or
attending meetings, or doing paperwork,
or going to church, or attending women’s
Bible study, or praying, or eating out,
or playing Words with Friends, or reading,
or coloring owls, or making phone calls,
or walking, or watching dumb TV shows,
or talking on the phone to my children,
or perusing Facebook posts and videos.
I studied at home in Colorado. I studied
in Arizona, Wyoming, Nebraska, South
Carolina, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and
Florida. I took a break on a Caribbean
Writers Cruise and then all of a sudden
my 1st year of college after fifty—gone!
And now almost my second.

Poetic Bloomings the moon

The Moon

The moon sat on the mountaintop,
as if it were going to camp there.
Reluctantly, it disappeared,
perhaps searching for poets to inspire
for a romance to rekindle,
or a lake, to admire its own reflection.

Poetic Asides Let the good times roll

One of those Mornings

There they go in the van.
They’re bathed and clothed and fed.
So let the good times roll.
While I go back to bed.

Poetic Bloomings Pick a form

Sonshine

When luck is down, my prayers go up,
And I request He fill my cup.
At times, I feel that I will drown,
My prayers go up, when luck is down.

When feeling blue, I sing to Him,
Thought it may sound so dull and grim.
It’s just a thing, I’ve got to do.
I sing to Him, when feeling blue,

Like after rain, the sun appears
His still small voice comes to my ears
He comforts me in all my pain.
The sun appears, like after rain.

PB Olympics

Confidence Isn’t Everything

The blood flowed in her veins like ice.
She challenged people here and there.
Her place was not to be Miss. Nice.
She figured that no one would care.

To her it seemed like just a game.
Her spirit was to do or die.
Said action was her middle name.
Her confidence did reach the sky.

The ribbon pride wound round her neck
The day her dreams came all to naught.
The angry crowd kept her in check,
Yet for the prize, she took her shot.

Her failure plainly there in print.
She thought she’d win, alas she didn’t.

PA scene from movie

Parking

He’s alone in the car with her
just as he had planned.
When he begins making his moves,
she’s ready with bare shoulders,
bright shiny eyes and a smile.
He shrinks back in terror.
She’s his mother.
He’s got to get back to the future.

PB cascade

The Fence

The land before him is immense.
He came a week ago today.
And now, he’s here to build a fence.
He’ll be here, now, for a long stay.
He dreams good things to come his way.

Forgetting life he left behind,m
His folks had thought he lost his sense.
But he believes he saved his mind.
He’d live here now from this time hence.
The land before him is immense.

The mountains speak of steadfast things
Compelling him to think and pray.
Will he regret he cut those strings?
He’d only know on judgement day.
He came a week ago today.

T’was nothing left that he could do.
His move had been a great expense.
He will just have to see it through.
The grasses here are thick and dense.
And now he’s here to build a fence.

If he could just fence in his life
And keep his problems there at bay.
Yes, he could breathe without the strife.
Let country living hold its sway.
He’ll be here, now, for a long stay.

A red-winged blackbird sings its song.
He gathers hopes like a bouquet.
This is where all his hopes belong.
As sun sets, grace is on display.
He dreams good things to come his way.

PB missed out this year

This Summer

When winter tarries,
I imagine taking walks
all over the neighborhood,
through the canyons,
and up to the mountain top.

But now during summer,
the only mountains I meet
are dishes, school work and paperwork.

When it cools,
perhaps I’ll have a little time
to feel uneven ground under my feet
blue skies, pines and golden aspens overhead
with silver slivers of falls in the distance.
